We asked Bracknell Forest residents to tell us What Matters Most to them when it comes to health and social care services.

The What Matters Most survey ran from March to May 2021 and 155 people shared their views and experiences with us. A big thank you to everyone who participated.  

This report highlights the key issues which Bracknell Forest residents are concerned about when it comes to health and social care:  Link to report at the bottom of the article. 

We asked which services people thought Healthwatch Bracknell Forest should be focusing on in the coming year and the results were:  

  • 36% said we should focus on GP Services 

  • 21% said we should focus on Mental Health Services  

  • 19% said to improve Access to Services 

We also asked people across  Bracknell Forest how easy, normal or difficult it has been to get help from health or social care services in the last 12 months. 

  • 44% of people said they found it ‘Difficult’ to access services over the last year 

  • 42% of people found it ‘Normal’ to access services over the last year 

  • 14% of people said it was ‘Easy’ to access services over the last year 

Positive ratings for health and social care services 

We asked people across Bracknell Forest to rate health and social care services either positively or negatively according to the experiences they have had in the past 12 months. We heard a total of 206 positive experiences from service users of health and social care services.  

The services which had the most positive reviews were:  

  1. COVID-19 Vaccination Services  

  1. GP Services 

  1. Testing and Screening 

  1. Pharmacy Services 

My Pharmacy: always friendly, e-repeat prescriptions always ready
Covid vaccination. Very impressive. Hardly any wait to get in. Seen straight away. Next appointment booked there and then. Very professional and most importantly friendly staff who put you at ease

Key concerns raised around the future of GP access led to some negative ratings 

We heard 133 negative experiences of using health and social care services 

The services which received the most negative comments were: 

  • GP Services received 55 negative comments  

  • Mental Health Services receiving 6 negative comments  

  • Testing/Screening services receiving 6 negative comments  


Difficulty getting GP appointment at Sandhurst Group Practice when its not an emergency but can't wait a month for an appointment either
The doctors and nurses are good, but the waiting times to get appointments and the customer services side needs to be improved.

What happens next?  

As a result of what we have heard from this campaign, Healthwatch Bracknell Forest will now begin work on setting our annual work priorities based on what residents have told us.  

We will be sharing this report widely with all key stakeholders in the local area to make sure the voices of everyone who took part are heard.
